Celebrate soccer, music, and community on the Danforth with The World Within Our Neighbourhood — a free summer event bringing people together through the joy of the beautiful game. Join the Broadview Danforth BIA on June 12 and 13 for outdoor match-day fun, live music, family-friendly activities, local performances, and a special viewing party for Canada’s opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The celebration continues through July 2 with musicians performing in CafeTO parkettes across the neighbourhood, representing cultures and countries from around the world. Come cheer, explore, dance, eat, shop, and experience the incredible mix of global sounds, local businesses, and community spirit that make Broadview Danforth feel like the world in one neighbourhood.

Introducing Your New Board of Directors

At the Annual General Meeting held this past October, 2010, a new slate of Directors was elected to serve the Danforth BIA. There are some returning Directors and some new faces. It is our pleasure to introduce them to you, along with their Board positions and contact information:

AMY CHOW - Dalsam Investments Inc.

Amy has served as a Board member for the past three years. Most recently she held the position of Interim Board Chair; and, Chair of the Advisory Committee. Amy brings a wealth of knowledge to the Board and the Advisory Committee as a result of the many external committees that she is sits on, including serving as Vice President of the TABIA (Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas) Board of Directors. Amy is a landlord in the area and will soon be opening her own restaurant in our Danforth BIA. Amy is also a resident of the neighbourhood.

Albert has served on the Board of Directors for over 15 years. In addition to continuing to serve as the Board’s Vice Chair, Albert also sits on the Advisory and Membership Committees. Albert’s knowledge of the area and lengthy Board experience are invaluable assets as the new Board proceeds with initiatives and strategies for the Danforth BIA. Albert is the owner of Der Dietemann Antiques, a business that has been a member of the BIA for 25 years. As well, Albert is a resident of the neighbourhood.

PATRICK CONNER - Big Carrot

Patrick is a new member on the Board. He is the Health & Safety, HR Coordinator and the Chair of the Standards Committee for The Big Carrot. Patrick has chosen to serve as both the Board’s Secretary and the Chair of the Capital Improvements Committee. This committee is responsible for overseeing the physical requirements within our BIA as well as the “look” of our area in terms of lighting, landscaping, signage etc. Patrick both works and lives in the neighbourhood.

CHRISTOPHER MOLDER Tridac Mortgages

Christopher is another new member on the Board. He is a partner in his family owned business, Tridac Mortgages, on the Danforth. In addition to serving as the Board’s Treasurer, Christopher will be working on the Membership Committee. The mandate of this committee is to liaise with you, our members, on an on-going basis. If you have questions, issues etc. we encourage you to contact the Membership Committee at their respective e-mail addresses. Christopher also works and lives in the area.

ZACH DAVIDSON Friendly Butcher

Zach is a new member on the Board; and, a relatively new member to the BIA. Zach is the owner of the popular Friendly Butcher shop, which opened on the Danforth in 2010.
Prior to joining the Board, Zach demonstrated his “friendly” volunteer spirit by participating in several Danforth Experience events including The Thrill of the Grill competition where he took the 2010 champion title. It is his passion for this area that will serve members well as Zach chairs the Membership Committee for 2011.

DANIELLA DIMITROV Globe Bristro

Daniella is a returning board member, having served on the BIA Board for over four years.
Daniella represents Globe Bistro, a BIA member restaurant owned by Daniella and her husband, Ed Ho. Daniella’s background is legal, governance and corporate development and provides the Board with legal advice and direction both as a director and as a member of the Advisory Committee. She is also a director of two public mining companies.

BRUNO DUARTE Fresh Floral Creations

Bruno is a new member on the Board. He is the owner of Fresh Floral Creations. Bruno’s creative expertise in floral design and decor has resulted in an impressive client list representing both corporate and private sectors; and Bruno is often a special guest on various tv shows including CTV’s Canada AM. Bruno is applying his talent and skills to the Danforth’s Capital Improvements Committee. In fact, Bruno started his board work early by taking on the redesign of our 2010 holiday tree located at Danforth and Ellerbeck.

LARS HANSEN c2e Communications

Although Lars is a new member on the Board; he began to volunteer his time and expertise last year as a member of the Marketing, Communications & Events Committee. Lars is the President/owner of c2e, a marketing and communications firm on the Danforth. Lars’ expertise in marketing, media and brand building will be advantageous in the continued growth of the Danforth Experience Event series. Lars will also be working with the Advisory & Membership Committees on business development projects for our area.
Lars works and lives in the neighbourhood.

JENNIFER JONES Joy of Dance
Bridge Lighting Chair

Jennifer is a returning Board member, having already served on the Board for the past four years. Jennifer is the owner of The Joy of Dance Studio. Jennifer’s performance knowledge and her creativity have greatly benefited the BIA in the past and will continue to do so in this new term. For the past four years, Jennifer has taken on the role of producer for the Danforth stage during the annual Taste of the Danforth. Our Taste stage, located at Danforth and Broadview, has quickly grown in popularity under Jennifer’s guidance. She is also the past Communications Chair– from events to graphic design to writing and photography – she has done it all. In 2011, Jennifer will still be producing our Taste stage but she is also the Chair of the Bridge Lighting Committee. This is a massive, multi-year undertaking to secure funding and approvals in order to implement a permanent lighting system for the Bloor Viaduct Bridge. Upon completion of this project, the bridge will be one of Toronto’s impressive landmarks and a stunning gateway to our Danforth BIA.
