Contact Tracing & Weekend Security

Good Afternoon All,

I know that this week has been a scramble for many of you trying to prepare for reopening tomorrow (Friday).  For our restaurant members it's been a bit of a hot mess trying to get confirmation on last call times.  We finally got that sorted yesterday - 2am is last call.

Contact Tracing:
I need to make sure that everyone who is reopening tomorrow knows that you have to do contact tracing for every person who enters your business.  This applies to restaurants, cafes and retail.  I've included the full information on what you have to do at the end of this email.  Please take a few minutes to read through the details.

Security this weekend:
Given the increase in incidents over the past while and the fact that retail and patios will be open for the first time in quite some time the BIA Board has hired a security company to patrol our BIA starting tomorrow night (Friday) and through Sunday night.

We will have 2 security guards walking the full area of our BIA.  The schedule is as follows:
  • Friday, June 11, 9pm to 2am
  • Saturday, June 12, 9pm to 2am
  • Sunday, June 13, 6pm to 11pm
We will make sure that the guards introduce themselves to businesses that are open when they come on duty and provide their contact numbers so if you need them and they are somewhere else in the BIA you can reach them.  If the guards see an incident that is getting out of hand they will step in and also call the police.

We will see how this plan works this weekend and we plan to continue it on weekends through the Summer and early Fall months while CafeTO is operating.  We received a grant from the City to assist with the funding of this initiative.

Contact Tracing Details - Please Read:

As of 12:01am tomorrow - Friday, June 11/21 - the following rules will be in place:

According to Ontario Regulation 82/20: Rules for Areas in Shutdown Zone and at Step 1; Schedule 6 General Rules at Step 1 and Schedule 7 Business That May Open At Step One, contact tracking is still required as noted below.

4. The person responsible for the establishment must,

i. record the name and contact information of every patron that enters an area of the establishment, unless the patron temporarily enters the area to place, pick up or pay for a takeout order,

ii. maintain the records for a period of at least one month, and

iii. only disclose the records to a medical officer of health or an inspector under the Health Protection and Promotion Act on request for a purpose specified in section 2 of that Act or as otherwise required by law.

Thanks,
Susan
