Good Afternoon BIA Members,
I hope everyone survived the horrendous weather this week. Good grief! And before I get into the update I want to send out a huge thanks to those members on the north side of Danforth between Ellerbeck and Broadview who braved Wednesday's weather and came out for the on-site laneway construction meeting. It was an important meeting but I'm not going to lie - it was darn crappy in all of that rain and wind!
Today's update is all about upcoming events:
Greek Independence Parade this Sunday
- A reminder that the Greek Community will be hosting their Independence Parade this Sunday, April 7 and the Danforth will be closed to all traffic from Broadview to Donlands from 11am to 4pm
- Preparations are underway for the CafeTO season once again.
- We will have 9 curb lane patios in our BIA this year.
- Transportation is finalizing the street plans and the City is aiming to do installations between the beginning of May and the May long weekend.
- CafeTO will run until early October.
- As part of CafeTO we will once again have 2 parkette sections in our BIA. Most of you know that we use these parkettes for our live summer music program BD Beats - Thursday and Friday evenings.
- This year the City is allowing us to offer the parkette spaces to our BIA members to use as pop-up locations to promote your businesses. Our parkettes will be available to you when we aren't using them for BD Beats.
- I'm hoping that you will give this some thought and take advantage of this opportunity. You can be as creative as you like. As an example of what can be done: Toby Carrel, the owner of the Riverdale Hive, will be setting up her pottery wheel and doing demonstrations.
- The parkettes will be located in the same spots as last year: north side of Danforth west of Ellerbeck (near Azura restaurant); and on the south side of Danforth east of Bowden Ave. (near Platis Cleaners).
- If you're interested please email me and we can discuss this further.
- We're excited to be bringing back our annual summer live music program. BD Beats will run from early June through to the Labour Day weekend with live music being offered every Thursday and Friday evening and Sunday afternoons.
- I'd like to extend a big thanks to the Carrot Common who has already signed up as a returning sponsor for this year's program.
- Attached to this email is our sponsorship information. I'm sharing this with all of you in case you have a supplier etc. who you think might be interested in supporting BD Beats. Please give this some thought and if you'd like me to send it to someone you know please email and let me know.
